My PC doesn’t have a parallel port

You will need to get to the equivalent of a parallel port somehow to secure the required “Step and Direction” signals. There is more detail in the FAQ Options to a Parallel Port.

Is a special cable required to connect to my PC?

Yes. This is VERY IMPORTANT. You MUST use a 25-Pin, M-F, all wires, wired straight through. This is typically (but not always) a parallel printer cable. We sell a 6 and 15 foot Parallel Printer Cable that is tested and works!

What power supply do I need?

We recommend at least 36 Volts DC, and 3 amps per stepper motor. For a 3 axis board, a 9 Amp supply minimum, for a 4 axis board, 12 amps minimum. Never exceed the rated input voltage for the HobbyCNC board.
